New EfW plant in West Sussex, as ‘robust’ market grows

Plans have been announced by Viridor and Grundon Waste Management for a new energy-from-waste (EfW) plant at Ford in West Sussex.The facility is set to be built at Grundon’s Waste Transfer Station in the Ford Circular Technology Park, which is located next to Viridor’s MRF. The concept is for the creation of an energy park.It follows a previous joint venture between the two companies, the Lakeside EfW near Slough, which has had to be re-sited due to the expansion of Heathrow.West Sussex Council has already granted planning permission for the Ford site.The new EfW at Ford will bring the number of similar plants in Viridor’s portfolio to twelve, with a value of £1.5bn. Ten are in operation and another plant, with a value of £252m, is under construction at Avonmouth.]Grundon recently celebrated its 90th anniversary.
